Health Care

AITAM Emerged as national NGO and became active in Health and population sector as major program intervention in both Remote Rural Areas, Peri urban and Urban Area. Since the inception attention was given to have an ideal and quality service in health both in Curative care and in Prevention of diseases. Service centres are as static clinic, Satellite clinic based in the community with a referral service to nearest tertiary centres. The patients in emergency and those patients who need referral are sent to Central clinic from remote rural areas, Ambulance service is available for emergency patient transfer.

Public health and Prevention of disease

In rural areas safe drinking water is scares, although the rural people have got access to shallow Tube well, once shallow tube well was main source of safe drinking water. But now those tube wells are contaminated with Arsenic. In the village now thousands of people are suffering from Arenicolids- this is a chronic disease may lead to fatal consequences. 80% of the Tube wells are contaminated with high Arsenic in the area. AITAM is providing Deep Tube well to disadvantaged families. These Tube wells are Arsenic free.

Reproductive health Care

Very low cost and quality treatment and care All doctors and Paramedics follow “rational drug use guidelines.”, Minimum number of drug per prescription, Unnecessary and harmful drugs avoided, Investigations are restricted, only very necessary test are advised. So treatment cost become low.

Adolescent health Family Planning. Pregnancy and contraception methods

While working in rural areas, 2500 families are identified from the disadvantaged population, in clusters and irrespective of cultures.
Whole objective is to identify the disadvantage families, to promote a holistic service for all the members of each family selected. Home based health care provided by our Paramedics and counsellors, or they are referred to static clinic and if needed referred to Tertiary referral centres.
A socio economic and health survey is done at the beginning of three years program. Family profile is documented for every targeted 2500 families.
After the base line survey, we can have a picture of health and socio-economic situation of they families and identify the issues and problems where AITAM can extend help as per their need.

Curative Care

WHO guidelines as syndromic approach – a very effective way diagnosing infectious condition of the Reproductive organs and treat. With syndromic approach AITAM Paramedics and health care provider manage RTI/STI especially among the women and adolescent. This is a very important issue that due to conservative culture especially in rural and peri urban areas, the women rarely go to do doctor, especially government health centres are not gender friendly. At home also the women do not disclose the problems even some times to their husband or parents. In our recent survey we found 42 percent of married women had been suffering from Reproductive tract infections and sexually transmitted disease. They need treatment and care and our team take care of the patients. AITAM also organize family-based counselling session for the mothers and also for the adolescent for personal hygiene. Training and discussion sessions are organized for each cluster of families where mothers, married women attend. Separate counselling and training sessions organized for the adolescent on RH and personal hygiene for adolescents. The Team Consists of Paramedics and Counsellors visit each family every six months in addition they attend the satellite centres where the people also attend in needs. At the end of each project period of 3 years, we find unique survey report having improvement of the disease profile where the number of Infectious disease are reduced by 80%.

School Program

Sessions on Reproductive health and personal hygiene are taken for the senior students from both female and male students. AITAM train up the school teachers with the training curriculum and with the objective that the teachers will continue the sessions for the students when AITAM program shifts after three years from one project area to a new area. Rational drug use. In Bangladesh due to costly health care 80% in the rural families can’t reach registered doctors, depend on so call traditional practitioners. Our project provide Community based health care support, treatment & care, health education and counselling for personal hygiene, nutrition, especially for women and adolescent. Sessions are organized in the community, for the parents and the adolescents. Community based Low-cost health care are provided, through rational prescription, avoiding unnecessary medication and pathology investigations. Usually a well-trained Paramedic in the project is the first line prescriber. And they follow the principle of rational prescribing. The cost of treatment and care becomes very low, not more than 20% cost of the treatment from the clinics outside. Healthcare program emphasized on Reproductive health as it has been mentioned above, include RTI/STI and HIV/AIDS, fertility complications neonatal and child illness.
