AITAM Paramedical courses

Bangladesh the cost of medical care and treatment is high. Many people cannot afford going to doctor, about 40 of these people cannot reach MBBS doctors. On the other hand the people in our country cannot afford the cost at the private facilities , they usually don’t go to the Medical graduates. The traditional practitioners are not even trained, most of them just attend the patients in the rural areas and in peri urban areas, they rather harm the people as so called healers, even many people go to the pharmacy and ask drug for their illness to the drug seller. It causes irrational drug use, using harmful and unnecessary medicine. On the other hand government facilities are poorly run, doctors are not attending their offices regularly, not attentive to their patients coming to the government centers. People want to go to government centers, but they are frustrated, not getting proper treatment and care. Although number of patients attending the government facilities are very high, but they don’t have proper access to care due to the irregularities in the government facilities. Actually low cost quality treatment care should be available to disadvantage people. They don’t have access to proper treatment and care. There should be a first line health care provider can provide in the primary care center and atleast can manage 80% of the patient, which is possible if we have well trained Paramedics at primary facilities. They can refer the rest 20% of the patients to the higher centres. AITAM is affiliated with Government to run Paramedical courses, Medical Assistant, Community Paramedics, Health worker course of different duration. And these Paramedics work as first prescriber and form a referral linkage from the primary centre in the rural and remote areas to better care facilities. We select mostly the young girls from poor Families, dropped out from the high school. The students are dropped out mostly from high school due to poverty, the parents can not afford continue their education and became the burden. AITAM recruits those young girls and enrol for Paramedic courses in AITAM institute. After the diploma the girls become the income generator for the family. These girls go to job or work independently in their areas and serve the people in the community. After the diploma maintain in the family, Parents can go for treatment, the younger brothers and sisters start going to school. The get a good shelter with better housing. So one girl whom we facilitate to complete the Paramedic diploma raises their respective family, take them out of the poverty. This courses are conducted taking minimum fee for the girls. The AITAM try contribute from our clinical activities and the donations from the people.
